HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS LETTER
To Residents:
The Board of Directors and Atlantis Management have prepared a Hurricane Preparedness List for the residents of the Community Association. This list provides helpful safety tips and community information to help everyone prepare for the Hurricane Season as well as any storms that we may have. Cleanup information has been provided to help facilitate a speedy cleanup within the community should a storm strike our community.
Your help and cooperation before, during, and after the storm is greatly appreciated. Please take the time to read through this flyer since there is important information contained within that is pertinent to our community.
HURRICANE PROCEDURES
Before the Storm:
Preparation for Homeowners
1. When a Tropical Storm Watch is issued by NOAA, all outdoor items should be either tied down or brought inside. Placing lawn furniture in the pool will damage the pool finish.
2. When a Hurricane Watch is issued by NOAA, please begin your preparation as described by the County of Broward and the City of Pembroke Pines.
• Hurricane Watch – Is issued when there is a threat of hurricane conditions within 24 to 36
hours.
• Hurricane Warning – Is issued when hurricane conditions are expected in 24 hours or less.
3. Tips for Generator Safety
• Never use a generator in enclosed spaces; it emits deadly carbon monoxide fumes.
• Never plug a generator into a wall outlet; this can cause fatal electrocution to utility workers trying to repair lines.
• Keep generator dry by setting it on a covered, elevated surface.
• Install carbon monoxide alarms in your home to warn you of any harmful fumes which may have seeped in from outside.
4. Don’t do any last-minute tree/palm trimming. The debris will not get picked up in time and will become flying projectiles when the storm hits.
Preparation for Security
1. Property Manager and the Site Supervisor will discuss gate preparations. Close communication will be maintained between both parties.
2. Guards will be sent home when the winds are at a sustained speed of 35 mph. At this point, the gate arms will be removed, and the gate will be locked open.
Preparations for the Community
1. Pool Area
a. Pool furniture storage
b. Equipment & miscellaneous objects secured
c. Shut down electricity – irrigation, lights, pool pump
d. Post notices
Common Areas
a. Prep all common areas (garbage cans, etc.)
b. Shut down irrigation pump stations & lighting
During the Storm:
Please stay indoors and away from the windows and doors. It is important not to leave your home during the “calm eye” stage of the hurricane. This can be the most dangerous point of the storm.
Use flashlights, instead of candles for light. Have a battery powered radio for updates on the weather conditions and the location of the storm, if the power goes out.
After the Storm:
Procedures for Homeowners
When cleaning up your property, please place all hurricane debris in the front of your home and adjacent to the street.
***NOTE***
If the debris is placed on common area, around cul-de-sac area, or any other place in the community besides in the front of your home this debris will not be removed.
1. Stay AWAY FROM ALL STANDING WATER. There may be downed power lines under the water.
2. Please do not drive unless it is an emergency. Management will be working diligently with the appropriate vendors to clear the streets and get the Community up and running in a timely manner.
3. Please check on your neighbors. In times of need, we can all use a helping hand.
4. FPL, AT&T, and Cable Vendors will be working diligently to restore any lost power. If one or more of these services are lost, please report it to them. Our Property Manager will not be able to help restore these services.
Procedures for the Community
